Alice Cortinovis, a researcher at the Department of Computer Science of the University of Pisa since last September, has been awarded the 2025 edition of the Householder Prize, a prestigious international recognition granted every three years for the best PhD thesis in numerical linear algebra. Named after Alston S. Householder, a leading figure in the field, the prize was presented to her during an international conference held at Cornell University (USA), for her doctoral thesis entitled “Fast deterministic and randomized algorithms for low-rank approximation, matrix functions, and trace estimation”, completed in 2022 at the École polytechnique fédérale de Lausanne (EPFL) under the supervision of Daniel Kressner.
After earning a degree in Mathematics from the University of Pisa, where she was a student of the Scuola Normale Superiore, she served as a Szegö Assistant Professor at Stanford University.
